Wishing a country and its inhabitants a happy holiday on its anniversary is actually a complicated thing. No country is perfect and mine (Canada) is no different. We have a LONG way to go in lots of areas … environment, better respect for First Nations, conscious business practices, radical improvements in the healthcare, education systems comes to mind, etc. etc. etc. However instead of beating that drum, on this day, I’d like to thank my country. I’m glad I’m Canadian. I’m glad we have Canada in the mix of the world. I’m appreciative of the relative safety, respect and goodwill that living in Canada brings. And what Canada has allowed me to do, and as a woman … live a life that generally makes me very happy, satisfied and proud. And allows me, from my cute little nook on a west coast island, to interact with like-minded people from all over the world. Canada … a big ol’ happy birthday to you and keep on going!
