A Practical Resource: Learn Copywriting via Free Webinar with my friend Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero on Jan. 22

Here’s a very practical recommendation for you other solo-entrepreneurs, consultants and small business owners out there.

Many of the folks who frequent my blog and sites, and my own coaching clients … are people who either currently are or want to be running businesses and lives that truly express who they are. That expression often has a creative or even spiritual component to it. A whole lot of folks are awakening to how they want to create lives that really work for them and are taking steps to make that happen. That is what my SHIFT-IT work is all about.

Unfortunately, a problem with a lot of the soul based people I encounter … at least where their businesses are concerned .. is that they don’t know how to effectively express and market who they are. Some even have the old fashioned idea that marketing and sales don’t belong in a spiritual or creative based business. That these disciplines are supposedly ‘bad’ , ‘uncouth’ or ‘unnecessary’.

As someone who runs a creative and spiritual based business I can tell you that this is complete and utter nonsense. Good, practical marketing and sales training is imperative to your success and doesn’t have to go against your principles or values. You need to get the word out about what you do … in language that your potential clients can recognize and understanding. I feel its even more important for creative and spiritual based business owners to learn how to do this. As your work can have such a positive impact on people, community and the world in general.

One key skill that most new entrepreneurs overlook (if they even know what it is to begin with) is copywriting. This is the ‘copy’ or writing that goes between you and your clients. The writing that is in your emails, your e-zine, your website, your marketing materials, etc. Anything you write about yourself and your business should have good copywriting essentials to it. Even this blog post is an example of copywriting.

I confess that I had no clue when I was starting out about what copywriting was and how invaluable it is to learn it (even though my undergrad was English and I’ve done a lot of formal writing over the years!). However, when I finally understood, and began to apply good copywriting technique to my creative businesses – my connections to and responses from my market climbed massively. I wish I had known of these skills much, much earlier.

My breakthrough came when I heard of and then eventually met and worked with my now friend Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero of Red Hot Copy.
