Ask Christina: Do I Do Minor Modifications to My Office or Go for the Full-On Reno?

“Ack! I have just hired a contractor to do some minor modifications to my office to make it more professional. My office is in a converted wooden heritage garage detached from my house. What I really want to do is tear it down, build a new office with a second floor where I can facilitate meetings in my own customed designed space. I’m in the middle of my SHIFT-IT Kit and not sure of how this dream works financially, legally and time-wise. So… Do I hold off on the minor renos with the possibility that I can achieve the dream sooner rather than later or reno now with dream later.” Angela from the Yukon

A. Great question Angela. When we get on a private call together the first question I am going to ask you is ‘which feels best’? For me your words ‘what i really want to do’ are a HUGE signal … cause I’m all about helping clients do what you really want to do! How exciting! What i would love to do is have you ‘beat the drum more’ of this idea of ”where i can facilitate meetings in my own custom designed space’. Get that energy really humming. Then let the actual form of the essence of what you want sort itself out from there.

Sooooo, I’m going to pretend I am you (since we have been working together a bit already and you’ve been thru my graphics trainings, I do know you and your circumstances a bit) —- I’m going to poke around this idea a bit more so we can really get the vibration of it stirred up. A great way to do that is to answer ‘why’ you want to do something. So, I’m going to do some why statements here (again, I’m just going to pretend I am you … so if i don’t phrase things or hit on things exactly as you would … just use my stuff as a starting place to do your own statements):

I want to facilitate meetings in my own customized designed space because:

  • It will be really great to have a space that works for the way I work
  • I can control how things go better than with the spaces i now use
  • Cause I like to host people and have them over
  • Cause I could create a really cool meeting space with tons of wall space for my graphic facilitation techniques
  • It will be great not to have to worry about whether I can hang my paper
  • I’ll be a few feet away from home and the kids while I work
  • Cause this area could really use a facility like this
  • I could rent it out to some of my colleagues who are doing cool work too
  • I could use it for all sorts of things
  • Having more storage space would be fabulous
  • I really like to build and make things
  • My husband can use it for his filming work too
  • I could make it unique and homey too, a place that people like to come to
  • We can get great strategic work done, in a comfortable setting
  • It could be a hub for great thinking about the Yukon and really be of help/service
  • Cause its something I and others could use for years and years
  • It could be a very good investment, increase our property value
  • This would enable me to grow my work in the ways I want to for many years to come
  • It would be an adventure to make this happen – empowering!

Yes, there may be resistance to this idea (how to make it happen, the physical world legalities you will need to sort out, finances, etc). But the first step … like anything that we apply Law of Attraction principles to, is to get the idea juiced up and feeling good. The emotional journey is key. I don’t know about you … but just writing those few sentences really started to shift my energy on this (now i want to go out and create my own custom meeting space!). This would be a good component for your Magnetism Map and there are lots of other activities that we can do to continue to build this yummy energy about your meeting space idea.

And, as you write … you are just mid-way through the SHIFT-IT process. Visioning and doing this kind of energy alignment work is just one part of the process. Once you get this energy rev’d really nicely … then you’ll be primed to really, really want this space of yours. You will have found the ‘feeling place’ of it. Next, your job will be to follow the inspirations that you get. For example, you may be inspired to talk to your contractor about it, to seek out friends who are builders, to make a trip to city hall to ask about zoning, etc. Or, you will start attracting those kinds of people easily into your life (for example, the next friends that your hubby invites over, may include a building inspector or someone who happens to know this stuff … synchronicities like this happen all the time). You must act on the intuitions you get and start taking aligned action.

What is important in visioning work is to really feel the essence of what you want … and be open to that essence appearing through the form you want … or perhaps even through a form that you have yet to consider. The universe can find all sorts of ways to deliver to you the essence of what you want. That can the real fun of this SHIFT-IT stuff … seeing how the universe delivers what we line up with. Our job is to become a vibrational match to what we want. Its job is to bring us forms that match our focus and vibration. That may sound like some meta-physical mumbo-jumbo (and it is!) … but you’ll know what i mean when this all manifests for you.

Thanks for the question Angela. I look forward to discussing this in more depth in one of our coaching calls … and to witnessing how this all pans out for you over time. Again, very exciting!!! And, just to give you some more inspiration … I had a client a few years back who wanted to do the same thing with her property in the Santa Cruz mountains … and she did! So I know it can totally happen!

  1. Angela on

    Thanks Christina,

Love your response. Triggered lots of my own reasons for wanting the space and clarified why I want a space. There are options out there and I’m already starting to explore them. I am going ahead with my reno for the short term while I figure out my ultimate goal of the long term. Look forward to exploring this more as we move forward in our coaching calls.

I hit the road this afternoon for a several week road trip. We bought a Eurovan that is waiting for us in Vancouver. I’m going down with Tomio (3 yrs old). Should be fun!
